We are a team driven by the mission to accelerate the continent's transition towards a clean, reliable, and accessible energy future. We are on a mission to lead the continent's transition to a Decarbonized, Decentralized, Digital and Democratized (4D) electricity grid. Borena was established over 15 years ago, driven by the belief that everyone deserves access to clean, high-quality and reliable energy.

Morwesi Ramonyai-Thonga - MD
Morwesi an impactful entrepreneur dedicated to advancing renewable energy solutions to combat energy poverty. As the Founder and Managing Director of Borena Energy, Morwesi drives the business strategy and growth. Her background includes sustainability consulting and governance roles. She has experience developing solar farms and creating new funding models for African solar projects. Morwesi holds a BCom. from Rhodes University and an Executive MBA from UCT. She is a Mandela Washington Fellow, recognized for her work in economic empowerment.
Thubelihle Moyo - CTO
Lihle leads the delivery of Borena’s technology capabilities. He has over 15 years technology experience and leadership across a range of energy industries and geographies including manufacturing, power generation, policy advisory and distributed energy. He has extensive experience across the power and control domains with a specific focus on the integration of intermittent renewable generation and other Distributed Energy Resources. He holds an MSc. in Renewable Energy and an Executive MBA.
